Digi Mobil announced this week that it will offer fast and cheap 5G for Romania, the operator owned by RCS & RDS, part of Digi Communications, having very big plans for the launch of this technology in Romania. Digi Mobil wants to be one of the first mobile phone operators that will have 5G coverage in Romania, and customers will have access to the network at affordable prices, as happened with 4G technology, launched some time ago.
Digi Mobil wants to be the main provider of 5G services in Romania when the network is ready, but if we look at what it has achieved with the 4G network, the promises are very high, and they seem to be in vain. Those from Digi Mobil failed to offer high-speed 4G networks for customers, so the promises for 5G seem to be without foundation, even if the operator claims that it invests large sums of money every year in the expansion of its mobile networks in Romania.
Digi Mobil: FAST and CHEAP 5G for Romanians
Digi Mobil will not have the fastest 5G network in Romania, nor the largest coverage, and this is what I believe based on what is seen now, a 4G network available only in some cities, and with speeds that are much higher, much lower than those of the competition. I still believe that Digi Mobil will offer 5G services at much lower prices than the competition, especially when it comes to mobile internet, and in the end this will matter the most to people.
"5G is a merger between the mobile and the fixed network. Fixed home internet is also consumed on mobile devices even if users are connected via Wi-Fi. 5G without optical fiber does not work, that is why ANCOM's approach is very important for establishing usage rates for the public domain. They allow you to further develop fiber optic networks in a predictable environment. This way we can reach all users and we will offer them 5G speeds in a few years. If this aspect is not understood, we will remain behind other countries, and the advance we have will disappear."
Digi Mobil is an operator that started from nothing and managed to help the development of the Romanian market for the better, and by that I understand a reduction in customer costs, and I expect the same thing for 5G. The big disadvantage of Digi Mobil is that it does not have as strong a group behind it as those of its competitors, and this limits its ability to invest in network expansion, which ultimately leads to inferior services.
