Apple Maps it is the map system that the Apple company created a few years ago, and which is still not successful because it is impossible to catch up too soon with Google Maps from any point of view. This does not mean that Apple does not try to create a system that is really efficient, so it hires engineers for an interesting functionality.
Apple is currently hiring a variety of employees to develop features based on augmented reality, something we've heard in the past about Apple Maps. Apple claims that the mapping and guided navigation systems are still in their infancy, and that they can be improved through augmented reality and more accurate localization using LIDAR.
Apple is preparing new MAJOR functions for Apple Maps
Apple has been working for a very long time on various functions based on augmented reality, many of them reaching the iPhone and iPad, but the ambition is to bring more to Apple Maps. Most of the world imagines that Apple will integrate augmented reality in Apple Maps to allow navigation on the streets using the camera as a guide, but this functionality has not yet been offered.

What else the Apple company could offer for Apple Maps is hard to say at the moment, but it is very possible that very interesting surprises will be prepared for us. Until then, Apple Maps remains a system that badly needs improvements and map updates, but Apple seems to be a bit out of step with the situation at the moment.
