iPhone XS Max arrived today at iDevice.ro following an impeccable coordination of those from eMAG, who delivered my phone early in the morning, and he thanks me, so now I can tell you a little about my first interactions with him. I chose iPhone XS Max space gray in the version with 64 GB storage space, i.e. the cheapest model, those from eMAG having it for sale in this page at 5999 LEi, Vodafone having it a bit cheaper, apparently also in stock, unlike eMAG.
My impressions of the iPhone XS Max are based on just a few hours of interaction, so take them as such, and expect a review sometime next week, at the earliest.
Impressive screen, but the same design as last year
The first contact with the iPhone XS Max is a little "intimidating" and this is because of the very large screen that Apple has chosen to use, with a diagonal of 6.5 inches, being the largest used so far. The size of the phone itself is not unusual, because it is as big as the iPhone 8 Plus, but the screen-front panel ratio is what makes you stop for a few seconds and analyze the iPhone XS Max more carefully.
The iPhone XS Max screen is as vibrant as that of the iPhone X, and for me, coming from the previous series, the change is big only in terms of screen size, not in terms of its quality. The design had nothing to impress me, because the iPhone XS Max looks exactly like the iPhone X, the same being true in terms of functionality, everything being exactly the same, including in terms of speed.
However, the much larger size of the iPhone XS Max screen compared to the iPhone X, with a difference of 0.7 inches, brings you more of what you used to access, but could not see. The iPhone XS Max displays more content on the screen, because it is taller, and of course everything is bigger, because despite the resolution, which is higher for the new model, the effective size of the screen makes the application icons, and elements from the web pages to be displayed in a larger format.
iPhone XS Max is the phone I've been waiting for from Apple since last year, and now having it in my hand, I can only say that I'm amazed by what the people from Cupertino have achieved, but you need to get used to he.
Use becomes more difficult
The iPhone XS Max is very difficult to use with one hand by a normal person, and I say this after using all the plus models, year after year, as Apple released them on the market. I chose the Plus models for the larger screens compared to the standard models, I chose the iPhone XS Max for the larger screen compared to the iPhone XS, but I have to say that it is more difficult to use than the old Plus models.
The new iPhone XS Max screen stretches from one corner to another of the case, you no longer have those thick edges that cover your palm, now the phone has the screen exposed with a very thin edge. Touching the upper parts of the screens of the iPhone Plus models was difficult in the past, but with the iPhone XS Max it becomes almost impossible with one hand, if you don't use the Reachability system, which you can't get used to very easily.
If you don't have big palms and long fingers, then you will have a hard time getting used to the iPhone XS Max, especially if you used one of the small models, but if you have a Plus model, then you will fully enjoy the much larger screen. To be honest, the transition from iPhone X to iPhone XS Max imposes a challenge in getting used to the larger screen, so in the case of even smaller phones, the differences will be even greater than you imagine.
A bigger iPhone X, and just as fast
iPhone XS Max is faster than iPhone X, at least in theory, and that's because in reality in iOS 12 you won't notice major differences in the usual use of the applications on your phones. The sound reproduction seems to be the same, the connectivity seems to be just as good, and I will talk about others in the review.
Camera
I haven't had the opportunity to test it much, yet, but the iPhone XS Max should have a better camera than the iPhone X, and in the pictures taken around the house, we notice a slight improvement in their quality. The iPhone XS Max really captures more light with its new image sensors, but the differences are not colossal compared to the iPhone X, although the artificial intelligence of the camera offers more vibrant colors for pictures, especially for those taken during the day, in the light.
Conclusion
A new year, a new challenge, and I like to have something that is different again, something that I am not used to from the very beginning, otherwise the transition would have been much more trivial. Before I end, for the first time I received an iPhone in a safety bag, most likely with some protection in case the battery explodes, did you receive them the same way?
