Digi. As one of the largest telecom groups in Romania, the company will create in our country, through the companies RCS & RDS and Digi Mobil, a 5G telephone network, which should really show what the operator can do. As early as May, those from Digi announced that they entered into a collaboration with Ericsson to test telecommunications equipment for 5G networks, allowing speeds of up to 10 Gbps, huge compared to what we have now.

Digi. In Romania, the company has big plans for its future 5G network, but you are probably wondering where exactly the service will be available for the first time, because it is impossible to launch it everywhere at the same time. Well, those from Digi said that they will launch 5G first in the big cities, most likely starting with Bucharest, and then expanding to the regional poles, i.e. Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, or Timisoara, but it is not excluded that it is separate from the capital the order should be different.

Digi. WHERE RCS & RDS will launch the Future 5G Network

Digi. We already know that RCS & RDS has a very well-thought-out and high-performance national fiber optic network that will help to achieve its 5G network, but huge investments are also needed to achieve such an objective. Only the 5G licenses will cost the big operators more than 200 million euros, but it is unlikely that Digi will make such a large investment at the beginning, and buy a slightly more limited spectrum, as it did with the existing 4G network now.

Digi. Even under these conditions, the hope is that the operator will offer performances similar to those of the competing 5G networks, in contrast to what exists for the 4G network, which remains clearly inferior to the competing ones. At the moment there is no possible date for the launch of the 5G network that Digi is currently developing, but it is possible that it will be activated in Bucharest in the second part of 2019, around the time when announcements are expected and to other operators.
