Spotify. CAREFUL! Announce the BLOCKING of Accounts

Spotify. In an unexpected move, the Swedish company yesterday updated its terms and conditions of use for the platform, notifying its users that it will begin blocking accounts. According to the change imposed by the Spotify company, users' accounts will be blocked if they try to block the ads that are displayed during free use.

Spotify. People who use ad blockers on Android phones, or other platforms, would have their accounts blocked by the Swedes after the activity is detected. Spotify announced that this rule will be imposed after March 1, and the measure is clearly intended to bring more money from advertisements for the company.

Spotify will block all accounts that block ads

Spotify. According to the company, 2 million people, or 2% of those who use the platform for free, blocked ads last year, which affects the company's revenue. Even if Spotify has almost 100 million subscribers, it also makes a lot of money from displaying ads, and 2 million people who block them means many millions of dollars lost.

Spotify is now explicitly banning ad blockers, as stated in an updated Terms of Service policy sent out today. The new rules specifically state that "circumventing or blocking advertisements in the Spotify Service, or creating or distributing tools designed to block advertisements in the Spotify Service" can result in immediate termination or suspension of your account.

Spotify. It was to be expected that people would block ads since everyone wants everything for free, but you can't offer services like this if people don't pay for them. What Spotify is doing is perfectly normal, and of course others will do the same since such a big platform takes a stand, and if the 2 million users leave, the company no longer loses money because of them.
