RCS & RDS. Vodafone, Telekom, Orange conducted tough negotiations with the Romanian Government to get rid of GEO 114/2018, and in those discussions they also revealed how much it would cost to launch 5G in Romania starting from 2019. According to RCS & RDS, or the other operators mobile telephony, the launch of 5G in Romania involves an investment of no less than 2.3 billion euros, a huge amount, which would still bring coverage to many regions of the country, but not immediately.
RCS & RDS. The figure is very high, more than double what the Romanian Government imposed through GEO 114/2018 for obtaining by auctioning the licenses that will be used for 5G networks. Precisely this large amount required for licenses is the big problem of mobile phone operators, they, RCS & RDS, asking to pay less for licenses, as it happens in other countries of the European Union.

RCS & RDS. The 2.3 billion euros do not represent the entire amount that must be invested for 5G in Romania, but only a beginning, so the operators will have to recover their future investments from subscription prices. This means that from RCS & RDS, and the other telecom operators, we could see consistent prices for the first 5G subscriptions that they will offer for customers, and of course this is bad news for everyone, but probably we should have expected at this.
RCS & RDS. To be completely honest, I am very curious what the mobile operators will announce regarding the first subscriptions for 5G networks, and this is because the expectations are very high. Some operators from abroad have announced that they will not charge higher prices for 5G compared to current technologies, and although I would expect that RCS & RDS would not treat these subscriptions differently, I have completely different expectations from the other operators.
RCS & RDS. The first 5G networks will be launched in Romania in 2019, more than likely at the end of the year, but until then we will definitely find out what the operators' plans are regarding this technology.
