RCS & RDS, Orange, Vodafone, Telekom, are slowly, slowly, getting closer to what they want, and this is because the moment is finally approaching when they will receive everything they have asked for in the last two and a half months. More precisely, the Minister of Finance, Eugen Teodorovici, announced last evening that the new ordinance intended to amend GEO 114/2018 will be adopted by the end of the month, and RCS & RDS, and the other companies, will receive some of what they requested .
RCS & RDS, plus the rest of the telecom world, is in full discussions with the representatives of the Romanian Government to fix some of the inappropriate changes made by GEO 114/2018, but things are moving quite hard. Even so, Eugen Teodorovici is determined to make changes before GEO 114/2018 begins to produce its effects, and before RCS & RDS, plus the rest of the telecom companies, are seriously affected by what was decided last year.

RCS & RDS has already increased the prices for services in Romania following the adoption of the emergency ordinance at the end of last year, and those from Telekom did the exact same thing almost two weeks ago. Now there is a risk that other companies will follow the example of RCS & RDS and increase their prices for telecommunications services, but the Romanian Government does not seem to want to take this risk at the moment.
Changes to 114 must be made by the end of March. We engaged in discussion on the sectors covered by this Ordinance. What do we want? That all the citizens of Romania, both individuals and legal entities, companies, the private sector, should gain. In the telecommunications part, let's encourage Romania to be able to obtain from what it has to sell, the 5G licenses and not only that, to correctly obtain the price that other states collect from similar operations.
RCS & RDS announced that the price increases for services are made out of the desire to obtain more funds to be able to continue investing in Romania, and they will not be reduced in the future. Eugen Teodorovici said that for the telecom environment, a method is being discussed by which Romania can obtain a fair price for the 5G frequencies, which RCS & RDS, together with other telecom companies, have complained about as being too high, so it remains to be seen what it will happen.
RCS & RDS will launch a 5G mobile phone network in Romania, just like other telecommunications operators, but it remains to be seen how big the investments will be if the Government does not make the changes they want.
