iPhone XR, the cheap phone that ended up being the most criticized of the Apple company at the end of 2018 due to sales below expectations, ended up surpassing the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in sales in 2019. We are talking here about the sales recorded in Europe for the iPhone XR, the phone being a few hundred euros cheaper than the iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, so its success should not have surprised the world, but following the evolution at the end of 2018 , the success so far is surprising.

iPhone XR it was highly sought after by those who didn't buy iPhone X and either had old models of iPhone phones, or bought iPhone 8/8 Plus at the time of launch, so they stayed in roughly the same price category. In the case of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, 16% of those who bought the phones upgraded from an iPhone X, while in the case of the iPhone XR the percentage is only 1%, the difference being huge, but perfectly normal.

iPhone XR has SURPASSED iPhone XS and XS Max in Sales

iPhone XR it is a cheaper iPhone X, with an LCD screen and some other minuses, but the very large price difference between the two models made the upgrade from iPhone X to an iPhone XS logical, and nothing else. Despite these things, the iPhone XR seems to have fulfilled its "mission" so far, and attracted users of cheaper phones, while users with more "hands on" chose to make the transition to the iPhone XS series of those from Apple.

Phone XR was a strong performer for Apple this quarter, outselling the combined iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in Europe and claiming the title of the best-selling model in Great Britain. In Europe, iPhone XR and iPhone XS/Max models both play an important role in managing Apple's base. 16% of XS and XS Max buyers upgraded from an iPhone X, compared to less than 1% of iPhone XR buyers.

iPhone XR was harshly criticized at the end of 2018 for not being able to attract enough Apple fans, but most seem to have waited for 2019 to upgrade, probably because then their contracts for subsidies for old iPhones expired . Regardless of the motivation, the iPhone XR has turned into what Apple needed to keep its sales at least at last year's value, but we will find out more at the end of the month.
