Digi Mobil. Vodafone, Orange Telekom, have tens of millions of cumulative customers in Romania, in a population of just under 20 million people, and for all of them today comes an extremely important announcement from the authorities. Raed Arafat announced the other day that the AML technology, Advanced Mobile Location, is to be implemented for the 112 emergency service, so that all customers from Digi Mobil, or other companies, benefit from much more accurate location when they ask for help.
Digi Mobil. AML technology is based on an implementation made by mobile phone manufacturers, not by operators, so you need to have a phone compatible with it, not an operator with support. Digi Mobil, and the other operators, only transmit the information received through AML from the phones, so it is necessary for 112 to have the support implemented, and all the operators' clients will be able to be located much more precisely thanks to it.

Digi Mobil. At the moment, AML technology is implemented in all iPhones that have any update released after the spring of 2018, so with iOS 12 you automatically have the technology installed. In the case of Android, all phones with updates released after July 2016 automatically have support for AML technology, so if they call from Digi Mobil or other operators, then they will benefit from the more accurate location made at 112.
Digi Mobil. Although the Romanian authorities have announced that they will implement support for 112 technology to better locate Romanians, for now it is not very clear when this should happen. Promises are of no use if they are not supported by actions, so Digi Mobil, or the rest of the operators, cannot do anything to improve the system if the authorities do not invest to modernize the 112 emergency service.
Digi Mobil. Having said that, it is important to know in the case of AML that it does not matter from which operator you initiate the phone calls, but what version of Android or iOS you have in your phones matters.
