Face ID from iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR was tricked by IT security experts, who presented at a Black Hat conference in the USA the not so simple method by which they achieved this. More precisely, we are talking about researchers from the giant Tencent, from China, who managed to trick Face ID in a way that cannot be reproduced too easily, and requires the person whose phone is being accessed to be present.

The researchers placed over the face of the "victim" a pair of glasses that had tape placed in the eye area, to somewhat imitate the fact that the person is actively looking at the camera that scans his face. This trick allowed to fool Face ID even with the function designed to analyze the eyes to do the unlocking, but we are talking about something that cannot really be called a hack in the true sense of the word, because it involves using the face of the person whose phone is accessed.

Having a human face, more than 90% of the criteria needed for unlocking are already met, and it's like cutting the skin off your finger from the fingerprint area, and you only need something that mimics human tissue to use it. The comparison is forced, but what the people from Tencent achieved is far from showing that Face ID can be easily tricked by hackers, and when you have the victim next to you, you use their face from the very beginning.

Even though Face ID remains extremely difficult to fool with human masks, and even though it is possible, it takes an extremely faithful reproduction of a person's face to fool the system. Until now, no simple method has been found to fool Face ID, and all the existing ones require a lot of work, and a mold of the face of the person whose phone is being forced to enter.
