iPhone 11 Pro Max has arrived at iDevice.ro, and these are my first impressions about the new phone launched by Apple on the market.

iPhone 11 Pro Max at iDevice.ro Impressions

iPhone 11 Pro Max arrived today at iDevice.ro, at the same time as the rest of the pre-orders made in Romania in this pageor this page, and honored by online stores. I have to admit that I thought for a long time before ordering the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and that's because compared to the iPhone XS Max there aren't very big differences, and after this short period of use I'm still not convinced that the upgrade- it's worth doing.

I wanted to buy the Midnight Green version, but neither eMAG nor Orange had the models ready for delivery today, so I chose the silver version of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and I can't say I regret it. The matte silver looks very interesting in combination with the stainless steel case, even better than I imagined, but of course that triple camera spoils the look of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but you all know this story.

Design, Screen and functionality

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is almost identical to the iPhone XS Max, just as the iPhone 11 Pro is almost identical to the iPhone XS, except for the design of the camera and the material used for the case. I'll start by saying that I like the matte case, which doesn't spoil the overall look at all, it still gives you the impression of quality, and that you have a premium phone in your hand, and bonus, you no longer see fingerprints and dirt on it after a little time of use .

Now I move on to the triple camera, which in reality is just as ugly as in the pictures, especially since each image sensor is surrounded by a metal part, which makes it stand out, and I admit that I don't like how it looks. The good part is that I won't have to see it as often as the cutout, which I still find ugly, although I've gotten used to it, so if you're thinking of not buying the phone because of the design, I recommend test it somewhere.

The Super Retina XDR screen of the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a very nice marketing name, it was declared as the best for phones by experts, but it does not surprise in any way. During the short testing period, I did not notice any huge differences between the iPhone 11 Pro Max screen and the iPhone XS Max screen, and everyone had the same thing to say, so this difference in components should not be seen as something you can feel. .

In terms of performance, there is zero difference between iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone XS Max, less so in the Camera application, where a difference is felt when it comes to recording photos, or switching between sensors.

UPDATED: Regarding Face ID, there is no difference between the unlocking time of the iPhone 11 Pro Max compared to the iPhone XS Max, although Apple promises a 30% reduction in the unlocking time. Moreover, the iPhone 11 Pro Max makes unlocking much more difficult if it is slightly tilted in relation to the user's head, which does not happen on the iPhone XS Max.

The camera, the main novelty

Except for the very ugly design, the iPhone 11 Pro Max camera is as good as that of the iPhone XS Max in the short comparison I made, and here I mean the normal photos, or the portrait mode. As far as the wide-angle camera is concerned, we are talking about an extremely good change, allowing us to capture a larger space around us, so I can only praise this change made by Apple.

Although the iPhone 11 Pro Max captures more of our surroundings with the new wide-angle camera, it has an aperture of f/2.4, even worse than that of the telephoto sensor, so if there is not much light, the quality disappears. The photos taken with the wide-angle function of the iPhone 11 Pro Max camera look very good on the phone screen, but if you take them indoors, without much light, and start zooming in on them, the quality is immediately lost, or at least that's what I experienced I.

iPhone 11 Pro Max Night Mode iDevice.ro
Night Mode on iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The Night Mode function of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is very interesting, it can turn night into day, and the example above is not really the best, but I will come back in the following days with some much clearer differences. The problem with Night Mode is that the interface works terribly, with a lot of lag when the mode is on and there is no light in the room, which greatly spoils the experience of recording photos in this mode.

There is still a stupid lag for the iPhone 11 Pro Max when switching between the three image sensors, becoming quite annoying, but maybe Apple will manage to make everything much more fluid than it is now.

Conclusion

It's been years since buying a new iPhone gave me any excitement, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max doesn't have the ability to provide that, at least for me, coming from the iPhone XS Max. The total experience is identical to that of the iPhone XS Max, except for the new functions for recording photos, and if for this, and the better autonomy, it is worth upgrading, I will tell you in a few days.
