The sale of Telekom to Orange COMPLICATED by the ROMANIAN STATE

Telekom's sale to Orange is complicated by the Romanian state, which is now discussing a completely new possibility that no one has thought of.

telekom sale orange Romanian state

Telekom announced the Romanian state regarding the intention to sell the majority share package of Telekom Romania Communications to Orange, and on September 25 an interministerial commission met to discuss this. People from the Ministry of Communications, Justice, Finance, SRI, SIE and the Competition Council, had a first meeting to discuss the approval of the sale of Telekom to Orange, or the preemption right.

Telekom has already negotiated with Orange about the sale of the majority stake in the fixed services division, but the Romanian state has the right of pre-emption for 1 year, that is, it has the right to buy the Germans' shares. It is quite clear at this moment that Telekom did not discuss with anyone from the Romanian state for the authorities to buy the shares that the Germans want to sell, and this is because there was probably no interest from the authorities.

Telekom did not discuss this with the authorities, but they started to discuss, especially since it is very possible that Orange does not want to enter into a partnership with the Romanian state following the acquisition of the landline division. So far, there have been no rumors suggesting that the sale of Telekom's landline division would be a total one, and that Orange would also buy the share package owned by the Romanian state, but such a thing is certainly being discussed, at least among the authorities .

Telekom wants to get rid of the share package it owns in the fixed division as quickly as possible, and this means that it will probably put pressure on the Romanian authorities to approve the transaction as quickly as possible. Considering that the authorities met on September 25 and did not reach any conclusion, it remains to be seen how quickly the sale of Telekom to Orange will be authorized, and what kind of agreement will be made with the French.

Telekom probably hopes to quickly get rid of the landline division in Romania, but until it gets to do this it will have quite a long time to wait, maybe even until 2020.
