NASA recently completed an extremely important mission to monitor a large asteroid named Bennu, which was spotted by researchers quite a while ago, and analyzed since then. Those from NASA sent some probes there to analyze everything that is happening, and now they are waiting for the Earth and the first samples collected from there and they want to explain one of the phenomena for which they still have no final explanation.
NASA sent a ship called OSIRIX-REx to the asteroid, it landed on that asteroid with a diameter of several hundred meters a long time ago, and discovered that pieces of it are released into the universe. Although this is very normal for frozen comets, for such a large asteroid it is not normal for something like this to happen, so NASA wants to find out why there are these releases of pieces from the surface all over the universe now.

NASA will be able to bring to Earth only next year the first samples collected by OSIRIS-REx from the asteroid, and with its help it will be able to explain more easily what is happening on that distant asteroid. Until now, those from NASA could draw only one conclusion about what is happening, saying that the temperature fluctuations on the surface of that asteroid, during the 4.3 hour rotation, would generate the release of particles a universe.
NASA believes that when the asteroid's surface is not covered by sunlight, it becomes extremely cold, and thus certain pieces of the surface break and are released into the universe. Asteroid Bennu contains water, NASA confirmed this thanks to the ship that was sent, so it is possible that it contributes to what is happening, but more will be announced by the space agency only after it receives the first samples.
