112 is the unique emergency service that STS administers in Romania, and thanks to it, the lives of people in the country are saved every day, or help is offered in situations where people cannot help themselves, for various reasons.
112 turns 16 years of existence today, and those from STS thought to present us with some information about the year 2019, 11.3 million calls were registered by the operators, but unfortunately 48% of them were not urgent, on the contrary.
112 had more than 5 million calls received from people who made the wrong number, wanted various information from the operators, or called to make pranks, or to swear at those who answer the unique emergency number in Romania, which represents a big problem.
Those from STS said in the middle of 2019 that more than half of the calls made to 112 are false, their number falling to just under 50% after the case in Caracal, but unfortunately they have not disappeared completely, despite the higher fines adopted by the Government.
"In 2019, STS operators handled 11.301.881 calls, 1.433.955 less than the previous year. Emergency calls accounted for 51,90% of the total number of calls received, while the difference of 48,10% mainly represents calls made by mistake, requests for miscellaneous information, hoaxes and abusive calls.”
112 still needs a tougher application of the fines that the authorities have adopted, so that people don't make stupid calls and block the lines when other people need help, but of course the help of the police is also needed here , which complicates the situation.
