BMW made an important surprise announcement for its next car models in February, and this in the conditions where the German manufacturer is trying to get in tune with the times and bring more electric cars to the market. Those at BMW are preparing the launch of the iX3, their first fully electric SUV, as well as the i4 in 2021, and for both they have created a new special type of aerodynamic rims that should help the overall consumption of the car while driving .
BMW will include these new rims initially in the iX3 that they are now preparing for launch, but it seems that they will also be available for cars from the iNext series, not just in the i4. BMW Aerodynamic Wheel is the name that BMW has chosen for these special rims, they being made of aluminum, with individual inserts, and having a weight 15% lower than that of the standard rims offered for X3 models, or other SUV- hate.

BMW says that its new rims should offer a reduction of up to 2% in energy consumption while driving, and increase the range by up to 10 kilometers, which seems almost equal to zero. However, if we think about the fact that those 10 kilometers can make the difference between being able to charge the car or not, the statements from BMW must be analyzed very carefully because in the case of electric cars it is very important not to run out of power far from a charging station.
BMW it is going to include in the iX3 the 5th generation of the running trains it has used so far in electric cars, but even so, the car's range will not exceed 400 KM by much, under ideal conditions. Under normal conditions of use, the BMW iX3 will hardly reach the 400 KM of autonomy it should offer, especially if there are other people apart from the driver, or luggage in the car, the number of extra kilograms influencing it greatly a lot of autonomy.
BMW will launch the iX3 during this year, and it will be interesting to see what the first impressions will be regarding the autonomy that the car will offer, this being the most important of all the novelties.
