Today WhatsApp launched a new special feature for iPhone and Android phones, here's what the company decided to offer for its users.

WhatsApp launched this morning a new special feature for iOS and Android, the platform having been testing it for some time, and now it is ready to be distributed to its users. More precisely, I told you last week that WhatsApp wants to increase the number of people who can participate in group video calls, and this morning the change was made, the limit being doubled to 8 people, great news for users.

WhatsApp has released this change for the time being only for the beta versions of the iPhone and Android applications, and this is because it wants to test the change at first to see the impact on its servers. WhatsApp is making this major change due to the Coronavirus and the increasing need for people to make video calls during this period of isolation, the degree of use for this functionality exploding during March.

WhatsApp is the largest messaging platform on the planet, with over 2 billion active users worldwide, so it's only natural that a video calling feature is widely used by users. Doubling the number of people who can participate in these group video calls could convince more people to give up Zoom to use WhatsApp for this purpose, especially since that application had a lot of security problems.

WhatsApp would test from the beginning of this month the expansion of the number of people participating in group video calls, but only internally, so this expansion is done to test it in the "real world". This means that there will be a period of several weeks in which WhatsApp will test the new functionality with users who have installed the beta version of the application for iPhone and Android, and depending on the feedbcak the decision to launch will be made.

WhatsApp will most likely launch this new functionality somewhere around the beginning of May, and this is to be 100% sure that there will be no problems regarding the use in good conditions.
