Raed Arafat: Romania enters the disaster medicine strategy

Raed Arafat disaster medicine

Raed Arafat makes an extremely worrying announcement today, and says that Romania is already entering the strategy of disaster medicine, and this is because the number of cases of Coroanvirus has reached such a high level that there is no other solution to save the infected patients already.

Raed Arafat says that now Romania should focus on treating as many patients as possible, not necessarily on treating all, and this could mean that doctors would choose who has a better chance of survival, something we have seen including in other countries.

"Today's situation is one that we anticipated, unfortunately. The pressure on the health system is obvious. We are seeing a pressure that continues to increase and this again is something that was anticipated given the number of cases that are occurring every day. Clearly, a percentage of these cases will end up in hospitals, they need advanced medical care and some of them even intensive therapy.

Now, slowly, slowly, we are entering the logic of disaster medicine, which requires a different management than preventive measures, preventive measures that must continue along the epidemiological line, measures to stop the spread. These are the most important. But at the same time, now, we are facing a situation that requires the application of very well calculated measures in order to be able to treat and assist the largest number of patients possible."
