DIGI Mobil: IMPORTANT decision with a very big IMPACT

DIGI Mobil has taken a very important decision that has a very big impact for customers in Romania, here's what you need to know right now.

DIGI Mobile rejected

DIGI Mobile is the fourth largest mobile operator in Romania, a position it has been in for some time without any real chance of surpassing Telekom in terms of the number of customers. There was at one point a possibility for DIGI Mobil to surpass its competition from this point of view, and that was when the discussions regarding the purchase of Telekom's mobile division began, but nothing has yet been achieved.

DIGI Mobile, through the parent company, was in serious discussions to buy the mobile division of those from Telekom, the fixed one having already been sold to Orange, the completion of the transaction awaiting the approval of the Competition Council. It seems that the head of RCS & RDS offered a much too small amount for the mobile division of the rival DIGI Mobil, so the Germans from Telekom decided to say "no" to the offer, and to keep the functional division in our country as it is.

DIGI Mobil: IMPORTANT decision with a very big IMPACT

DIGI Mobile he could have doubled the number of customers on the mobile and landline side if he had bought the mobile division of those from Telekom, but this did not happen, unfortunately, at least not yet. Orange will pay 500 million euros for 54% of the shares of Telekom's fixed services division, and RCS & RDS would have paid less for the majority share package of the mobile division, and could have seriously strengthened DIGI Mobil for the future.

DIGI Mobile would have needed the infrastructure of those from Telekom on the mobile telephony side, both the coverage and the quality of the services, being superior to those offered by the operator that is part of the DIGI group. Instead of acquiring the mobile division of Telekom, those from DIGI Mobil focused on building a 2G infrastructure in Romania, but also on expanding, up to a point, the 5G infrastructure in our country.

DIGI Mobile remains a strong operator, with serious growth potential, but it remains to be seen how much it will be able to sustain this growth in the future, and this is because things are still very uncertain.
