ANPC: WARNING regarding Discounts in Romanian Stores

ANPC WARNING Discounts Romanian Stores

ANPC issued today a very important warning regarding the discounts that various stores in Romania have at the moment, and it is very important that everyone be extremely careful about what they buy in various shopping centers.

ANPC draws attention to the fact that some of the offers that stores in Romania currently have could be erroneously expressed on customers' shopping receipts, and Romanians could be tricked into paying more for products than the displayed price on the shelf.

"Consumers must know that any announcement of a price reduction expressed in absolute value or as a percentage must be made visible, legible and unequivocally for each product or group of identical products: either by mentioning the new price next to the previous, barred price, or by mentioning 'new price', 'old price' next to the corresponding amounts, or by mentioning the percentage reduction of the new price that appears next to the previous price, barred, regardless of the type of sale at a reduced price (sale, liquidation, promotional). Any sale with a reduced price, regardless of the type, must be accompanied or preceded by advertising and announced under its name ('sale/sales/balances', 'liquidation', 'promotions'), accompanied by the start date and its duration .

At the time of purchase, consumers must check whether the offer is still valid and whether the announced price reduction is identical to the real one, at the bar code readers in large stores or directly at the checkout, if the displayed price is the invoiced one. When purchasing promotional packages of the '3 for the price of 2' type, you must check the individual price of the products, which must be available at the time of sale, in order to be able to compare it with the price of the promotional package. I advise consumers to request additional information when they have concerns regarding any advertising campaign made by any means, within the store, through posters or leaflets, through announcements on the website.

There were various items reduced by up to 50%, grouped on a special support accompanied by the red poster '50%', at the bottom stating, in very small characters, 'discounts of up to 50% on products marked with the label of reduction'; misleading commercial practice was found through the exposure for sale of some textile products in welding, in certain areas of the store, signaled by information posters with mentions such as 'Everything for 49,90 lei', 'Everything for 39,90 lei', ' Everything for 29,90 lei' or 'Everything for 19,90 lei', suggesting the idea that all products in the respective areas can be purchased at the indicated price, in reality each product in the respective areas had an individual price tag, on which the price was mentioned to the value displayed on the panel."
