Samsung launches CES 2021 Exynos 2100 chip GALAXY S21

Samsung launched at CES 2021 the new Exynos 2100 chip for the Samsung GALAXY S21 series phones, it will also be used in the Samsung GALAXY Note 21/30, but probably also in other phone models.

"Bucharest, Romania – January 12, 2020 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced the new Exynos 2100 at its first virtual event, Exynos On 2021 (www.youtube.com/samsung). This is the company's first flagship mobile processor with integrated 5G technology, built on the most advanced 5 nanometer (nm) ultra-violet (EUV) process node.

“Our Exynos team is committed to creating premium mobile computing experiences by bringing innovation to the processors at the heart of today's smart devices. We are happy to introduce the new Exynos 2100, the most advanced mobile processor to date. Armed with powerful processing technologies and an advanced 5G modem on an efficient 5nm process node, the Exynos 2100 will set a new standard for tomorrow's premium mobile devices." stated Inyup Kang, President of System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics.

“At Samsung Electronics, we are dedicated to delivering innovative technologies and services through our flagship devices to give our users a complete mobile experience. With powerful processing power, fast 5G connectivity and intelligent acceleration through AI technology, the Exynos 2100 delivers peak performance that meets the stringent quality standards and requirements for our next-generation smartphones.” stated Kyeongjun Kim, Executive Vice President and head of Mobile R&D Office at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

“The evolution of 5G, advanced graphics and machine learning technologies have been essential to enable new mobile experiences. Arm and Samsung have worked closely together to incorporate the powerful next-generation computing and graphics platform inside the Samsung Exynos 2100 processor. As a result of our partnership, we are more than capable of maximizing performance and making all these experiences a reality for all next-generation mobile devices while offering exceptional battery life," stated Paul Williamson, Vice President and General Manager, Client Line of Business at Arm.

The chip's computing and graphics processing capabilities have been enhanced and refined to exceed user performance expectations. As Samsung's first mobile processor with integrated 5G technology, the Exynos 2100 is built on advanced 5nm EUV processing technology that enables up to 20% lower power consumption or 10% higher overall performance than its predecessor 7 nm. For further improvements, the chip offers improved cache utilization and stronger programmability. The octa-core processor comes in an improved tri-cluster structure consisting of a single powerful Arm® Cortex®-X1 core running up to 2,9 GHz, three high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and four point-efficient Cortex-A55 cores energy-wise, offering over 30% improvement in multi-core performance over its predecessor.

Arm Mali™ -G78, which supports the latest APIs such as Vulkan and OpenCL, improves graphics performance by over 40% for stunning visuals and smooth graphics, enabling the most immersive mobile on-screen experiences, including gaming and AR / VR or MR (mixed reality). The Exynos 2100 also integrates advanced multi-IP governor (AMIGO) technology, which monitors and optimizes the power consumption of the CPU, GPU and other processes, enabling longer usage time even during more intensive activities on display. Through great efforts to increase the energy efficiency of its products in software and hardware technologies, Samsung is also continuing its commitment to help minimize the carbon footprint of tomorrow's mobile devices.

AI technology capabilities will also enjoy a significant boost with the new Exynos 2100. The new tri-core NPU has architectural improvements such as minimizing unnecessary operations for high efficiency and support for feature mapping and weight compression. The Exynos 2100 can perform up to 26 trillion operations per second (TOPS) with more than twice the power efficiency of the previous generation. With on-device AI processing and support for advanced neural networks, users will be able to enjoy more interactive and intelligent features, as well as improved viewing performance in areas such as imaging.

The Exynos 2100's advanced image signal processor (ISP) supports camera resolutions up to 200 megapixels (Mp). It can connect up to six individual sensors and is capable of processing four simultaneously for richer multi-camera experiences. With a Multi-Camera and Frame Processor (MCFP), ISP can merge streams from multiple cameras to improve zoom performance, image quality for ultra-wide shots and more. With AI-powered acceleration, ISP offers a content-aware feature that quickly and seamlessly recognizes scenes, faces and objects and optimally adjusts camera settings to capture the image with the fullest details.

The new Exynos 5 processor's integrated 2100G technology modem supports 5G sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrums from 2G GSM / CDMA, 3G WCDMA and 4G LTE for strong network coverage and reliability. The modem offers a maximum downlink speed of up to 5,1 gigabits per second (Gbps) in sub-6-gigahertz (GHz) and 7,35 Gbps in mmWave or up to 3,0 Gbps in 4G networks with 1024 Quadrature support Amplitude Modulation (QAM).

The Exynos 2100 is currently in mass production.
