Facebook pays users hundreds of millions of dollars

Facebook has agreed to pay no less than $650 million to millions of users in Illinois, USA, following a lawsuit that it agreed to end with a settlement that will bring $340 for each each individual.

Facebook is paying this huge amount after agreeing that it was wrong when it collected their facial recognition data without first asking for their consent, and the amount itself is an incredibly large one for a situation of this kind.

Facebook was sued in 2015 by three residents of the state of Illinois in the USA, and after years of lawsuits, finally the function in the platform that automatically applies tags to the people in the photos also brings this huge payment made by company.

"It's money that comes directly from Facebook's pocket. The violations here didn't take a dime out of the victims' pockets. But this is real money Facebook is paying to compensate them for the tangible privacy harms they've suffered."
