DIGI Romania: The HUGE PROBLEM faced by RCS & RDS

DIGI Romania has a huge problem it is facing at the moment, here's what a lot of people didn't know about the RCS & RDS situation.

DIGI Romania ban

DIGI Romania, one of the largest telecommunications groups in our country, has a very serious problem that many people did not know about, but which unfortunately leaves the company outside the 5G networks in Hungary. More precisely, the Hungarian authorities forbade the DIGI Romania company, more precisely of the DIGI Communications NV group, to register in the auction for the 5G frequencies in the country instead of DIGI Kft. in order to be able to buy the spectrum it needed.

DIGI Romania tried to register with the parent company in Holland because the local subsidiary did not meet the necessary conditions to participate in the tender for 5G frequencies in Hungary. The authorities in Hungary did not want to allow the Dutch company to register for the auction because it would have transferred the rights further to the Hungarian subsidiary of DIGI Romania, so they decided to completely exclude it from the auction organized there, which is not very good for local competition.

DIGI Romania: The HUGE PROBLEM faced by RCS & RDS

DIGI Romania contested the decision of the ANCOM equivalent in Hungary at the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Hungary, but the judges decided that the authorities acted correctly when they took the ban decision. Their decision is final, so DIGI Romania cannot participate in the creation of 5G networks in Hungary, and its local subsidiary does not yet meet the conditions to do so, so an alternative solution will probably be needed there.

DIGI Romania has the most extensive 5G network in Romania at the moment, so it has the ability to invest to create a 5G infrastructure worthy of any country, but in Hungary it cannot do this with DIGI Kft. For now, the people from DIGI Romania have not said nothing about the situation in Hungary, but they probably don't have much to say until they find a solution to participate in the creation of 5G networks there, which will probably happen.

DIGI Romania has not yet decided to create 5G networks in Italy or Spain, where it also has subsidiaries, so it remains to be seen to what extent this will happen.
