Telekom: Decision with Impact for Millions of Romanian Customers

Telekom third

Telekom is one of the largest telecommunications groups in Romania at the moment, with business of almost 1 billion euros annually, and in 2021 part of the company will be sold to Orange. In 2019, Telekom took the decision to sell its divisions in our country, both fixed services and mobile services, but only for the first one did it manage to find a buyer in the position of Orange.

Telekom also tried to sell the mobile services division, and discussed with those from RCS & RDS to do so, but the discussions did not lead to anything because the Romanian group only offered a third of the price requested by the Germans. Yes, RCS & RDS only offered a third of the money that Telekom asked for its mobile services division, and that probably broke the talks right from the start, which is not surprising considering the offer made.

Telekom: Decision with Impact for Millions of Romanian Customers

Telekom did not give up that much of the initial asking price for its mobile services division, so that after selling the fixed services division, it will remain as an exclusive mobile services operator. This means that the importance that Telekom will have on the Romanian market will be substantially reduced, its number of customers will be even lower than that of DIGI Mobil at the moment, but maybe through porting it will grow.

Telekom has become very aggressive with its strategies for fixed and mobile telecommunications services in Romania, having extremely interesting offers throughout 2020, but also during 2021. This gave us the opportunity to enjoy extremely good promotions from Telekom in relation to those of the competitors, and in 2021 we will most likely see exactly the same thing from the telecommunications company, but only if the rest will also have more aggressive promotions.

Telekom is preparing to finalize the sale of its fixed services division to Orange sometime in the fall of this year, so there is still quite a bit of waiting until customers will make the switch to the new group.
