COVID-19 Romania: The number of ATI beds will increase to over 1600

COVID-19 Romania has 1600 beds

Prime Minister Florin Citu officially announced that the number of intensive care beds available for patients with COVID-19 will increase to over 1600 in the next period, with the goal being to reach 1800 as soon as possible.

We already know that at the moment the maximum number of patients who can be admitted to ATI after infection with COVID-19 has been reached, and the Romanian Government wants to increase the availability of beds to treat as many people as possible.

"Two extremely important discussions today for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first part of the day, I had an online discussion with the directors of the Public Health Directorates about intensive care beds. The short-term target is to have 1.600 intensive care beds.

Some solutions were also presented today. I said, once again, that a joint effort is needed to get through this period.

I also talked to the directors of the COVID hospitals, whom I thanked for the effort they have been making for a year in the fight against the pandemic. We listened to them and assured them that we would provide them with the necessary resources to treat patients. 240 million lei have already been paid for the additional purchase of Remdesivir, but if needed, we will come with additional funds."
