Warning from the Romanian Government for Romanians in the country

Warning Romanian Government Instagram phishing

The Romanian government is launching through CERT-RO a very important new warning aimed at Romanians all over the country, and we are talking about a message that brings into discussion what is happening on Instagram, and this is because there are phishing campaigns in full swing.

The Romanian government is talking below about a phishing campaign that focuses on checking users' profiles, something optional for users, but some take advantage of people's desire and try to turn them into victims.

"Beware of private messages received on Instagram. Attackers send messages to users from fake accounts that simulate a copyright enforcement service.
As can be seen from the images below, it appeals to the emotional component of the user (suspension of the Instagram account), adding at the same time the need for urgent action (the account will be closed within 24h). All this, because the recipient of the message would have violated copyright rules or community rules, which, of course, they can dispute by accessing a form.
However, the link for the form leads to a phishing site, also identified by Google as such, that copies Instagram's visual identity and asks for account access data. Once a user has entered this data and does not have 2-step authentication (2FA) enabled, they can lose account access to attackers.
Avoid accessing such links before checking with a security solution and DO NOT enter account details following such messages received from unknown sources. Also, report to the social network such accounts that do malicious activities, to be closed.
Thanks again to our social media followers who report such attempts to us and help us quickly and efficiently inform our audience to protect themselves from the latest online threats!”
