Valeriu Gheorghita: Romanians Beware of the New Wave 4

Valeriu Gheorghita draws the attention of millions of Romanians from all over the country to a problem that is worsening day by day and that risks becoming an extremely serious one, and this is because the Delta version of the Coronavirus is starting to spread more intensively in our country.

Valeriu Gheorghita says that the Delta version of the Coronavirus has already been detected in 15 counties across the country, and in many cases it would be about community spread of the virus, so we are talking about a situation that risks getting out of control in the absence of vaccination and preventive measures.

"The message is as clear as possible, that, at the moment, there is an increasing trend of cases generated by the Delta viral variant which, as we know, is much more contagious, spreads much more easily among the unvaccinated population and which can associate a higher risk of hospitalization, estimated at 2,5 times compared to the infection with the previous variants, especially if we are talking about the population, I repeat, unvaccinated, vulnerable population, elderly population, which may have an increased risk of evolution towards severe forms of the disease, requiring hospitalization.

50% of these confirmed cases with the Delta variant are in 28 outbreaks, of which there are 22 family outbreaks and six community outbreaks from eight counties: Argeș, Bacău, Brașov, Dolj, Ilfov, Iași, Teleorman and the municipality of Bucharest. However, 42 cases, i.e. 33%, have no mentioned epidemiological connection, which raises a very high probability that these cases were acquired through community transmission on the territory of our country.

Practically, at this moment, we have 15 counties where cases of infection with the Delta viral variant have been identified, the most being in the municipality of Bucharest - 31 cases, followed by Argeș county - 23 cases, Ilfov - 19 cases and Bacău - 17 cases. There were also five deaths caused by infection with the Delta viral variant, the last one in a 56-year-old man from Olt county, with pre-existing medical conditions. All five cases of death, unfortunately, were unvaccinated people."
