Google's New Online Safety Measures for Minors

Google has announced a series of new safety measures for minors in the online environment, the American company describing below the changes it is making for the various platforms that are currently available including in Romania.

"Google has always taken steps to protect minors and ensure that their online experience is safe - from the 13-year-old limit for opening their own Google Account and the Family Link tool, which allows parents to supervise children's online activity, to to YouTube Kids and the children's digital education program Be Internet Awesome. In the coming period, Google will make a series of changes to its products and services to ensure children and adolescents (people aged 13 to 18) have a safer online experience. Here are some of them:

YouTube: For young people, the default upload settings will be the most private. Reminders to take a break from watching or go to bed will also be enabled, and auto-play will be disabled for all users under 18.
Search: SafeSearch, which protects users from mature content from Google searches, will be automatically enabled for all users under 18. Until now, it was enabled by default for accounts of minors under 13 managed through Family Link.
Location History: Location History is a setting in your Google account that helps Google products be more useful. This setting is disabled by default for all accounts, and children with supervised accounts do not have the option to enable it. Soon, no account under 18 will have the option to enable Location History.
Online advertising: Google will expand safeguards to prevent ads that may harm teenagers and block age, gender and interest-based ad targeting to people under 18.”
