Valeriu Gheorghita officially sent a last-minute decision that was taken by the Romanian authorities before the 5th wave officially begins, and this is because we are talking about a serious problem due to the Omicron variant, so vaccination will begin children aged 5-11 years.
Valeriu Gheorghita confirmed that the immunization of children between the ages of 5 and 11 will begin in Romania when the special doses from Pfizer arrive, the administration being authorized in Europe by the European Medicines Agency, so that in the following weeks the immunization will stop.
"Regarding the third thing strictly related to the vaccination campaign, this time, regarding the preparation of the vaccination stage addressed to children between the ages of 5 and 11, I can tell you that the programming platform has already been optimized, the Registry Electronic National Vaccination is also being optimized.
We developed the working procedures and instructions, because we already have the leaflet in Romanian, translated and available on the website of the European Medicines Agency.
We have also centralized the vaccination clinics, where children between the ages of 5 and 11 will be able to be vaccinated, namely, we are talking about 214 vaccination clinics, in centers organized in health facilities or outside health facilities, where the possibility of vaccination in family medicine offices is added. I would like to remind you that it is mandatory to give the informed consent of the parents, respectively the legal guardian, and the method of presentation will be done either by appointment in the platform or directly at the vaccination center.
The actual start of the process will begin when, of course, we will have the doses available and it is strongly recommended for those who are in evidence with chronic conditions and those who live with people who are at risk of severe forms in case of SARS-CoV infection -2.
From the data published in the last week, basically, we have some preliminary conclusions, namely, that the neutralizing activity of the antibodies both obtained as a result of passing through the disease and as a result of the first vaccination scheme is much, much lower compared to the activity on that these antibodies had to previous variants, in this case to the original parental variant that originated in Wuhan."
