The Minister of Health transmits a series of very good news for Romanians all over the country in the midst of wave 5 of infections generated by the Coronavirus, and this is because, based on the disclosed data, the number of hospitalizations for infected people remains very low, only 2% – 3% of the total.
The Minister of Health also says that in the case of mortality there is a significant decrease in wave 5 generated by the Omicron strain, which represents a major change compared to the fall and the Delta variant, which is no longer dominant.
"From the point of view of the epidemiological situation, despite the large number of new cases registered, the proportion of hospitalized cases which - or we will say the proportion of hospitalized cases on a specific day - is still low, 2-3% daily, daily increase , can be taken over by the health system without problems.
I have seen in the public space various statements related to the geometric increase in the number of infected children. It is false information. I have made available to Minister Cîmpeanu all the official figures, which also show the trend, not only the figure from a certain day.
Yesterday there were 11 children hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit, 10 less than the previous day, representing about 2% of the total number of hospitalized children, and the number of affected children who were hospitalized was 338. Obviously, we are concerned the operation of the health system, the provision of medical assistance.
I think this approach related to facilitating testing will lead to pandemic control, because a diagnosed and isolated case will automatically stop transmitting the disease, and I think that's a big win, on the one hand. On the other hand, a person who is diagnosed early in the disease may, as they should, receive early health care and not reach the late stages of the disease, difficult to control, which have led, you see, to mortality very big.
From the point of view of mortality, at this moment, compared to the similar situation in October, mortality is about 8-10 times lower than in October. Regarding the innovative antiviral medication, I hope that we can sign the first contract with MSD these very days and by the end of the month, as we promised, the first quantities of innovative antivirals will be found both at the level of hospitals and at the level of the centers patient evaluation clinics, where they can also receive free treatment."
