“Jupiter hosts one of the largest and longest known storm systems, the Great Red Spot (GRS), visible at left. The GRS is so big it could swallow the Earth, although it has shrunk. Comparison with historical records indicates that the storm covers only a third of the exposed area it did 150 years ago. NASA's Outer Planets Atmospheres Legacy (OPAL) program monitored the storm more recently using the Hubble Space Telescope.”
