Virgil Popescu: Official Announcement, Government Decision on Gas and Energy Prices

Virgil Popescu Official Announcement Government Decision Energy Gas Prices

Virgil Popescu made a very important official announcement regarding the prices for electricity and natural gas supply services, the Romanian Government publishing a new decision that contains provisions intended to help Romanians throughout the country.

Virgil Popescu explains below everything Romanians should know about this new Government decision, the measures being taken to help people who during this period need support due to higher bills for electricity and gas services.

"Today we approved the emergency ordinance by which, starting from February 1, certain changes are made to help people. Practically, for all household consumers, for all Romanians who own a home, the ceiling drops from 1 leu per kW to 80 money per kW for electricity and from 37 money per kW to 31 money per kW, regardless of how much they consume.

If, in addition to this, they consume 500 kW per month and 300 cubic meters per month, then they benefit from additional compensation and will basically pay 68 pennies for electricity and around 22 pennies for natural gas – here we are talking about all taxes, all taxes included.

In addition, compared to the categories that were previously in the law, hospitals, schools, kindergartens, universities, NGOs, we introduced, we expanded this scheme for practically all non-household consumers - and here I mean absolutely all non-household consumers households, with the exception of those who benefited from the large electricity consumers who benefited from Ordinance 81, on a state aid scheme approved by the European Commission.

A scheme in which only last year we paid 130 million euros and for them we are in discussions with the European Commission to renew this scheme. The CETs do not benefit from this capped price, because in this Law 259, approving the Ordinance, they have an aid scheme. Basically, we have a very large number of non-household consumers where the price is capped at 1 leu per kW for electricity and 37 money per kW for natural gas.

There still remains the provision by which the suppliers are obliged to redo all the invoices, so that has not remained, this provision remains, they are obliged to redo absolutely all the invoices that they issued without applying the provisions of the present law."
