Minister of Health Official Last Hour Warning Sent to Romanians

The Minister of Health is sending Romanians an extraordinarily important last-minute information that millions of Romanians must know immediately, and this is because we are talking about information on how to administer potassium iodide pills, which will be distributed in soon.

The Minister of Health explains below everything that Romanians should know vis-à-vis the administration of these pills, but also with the terms at which they must be taken in order to be effective, and when they must not be taken at all, plus who should not administer them.

"We will start with the measures in case of a nuclear accident. We, as we promised you since last week, from the press conference at the Government headquarters, we are starting an information campaign and the materials you see here will be taken over by the colleagues from the Government, and there will be a campaign of information at national level.

It must precede the distribution of these potassium iodide pills. Everyone should be aware of the cause when they receive this product. Antibiotice Iasi completed the entire production last week, the entire quantity has already reached DSPs, and now we are looking for the best way to distribute it to the eligible people.

The administration of tablets, or pills, of potassium iodide must be done in the case of an emergency only when indicated by the authorities. These pills should not be taken in any case, in a preventive way, but only if there is such a public announcement that these pills should be taken if there is a nuclear accident in the vicinity of Romania.

If this incident results in an increase in the level of radiation in Romania, and there is radioactive iodine that can irradiate people. Otherwise they should not be taken. The dosages are different according to each age group, a quarter of a tablet for children aged 1 month, half a tablet for those aged 1 month - 3 years.

Children aged 3-12 years are given one tablet, children over 12 years old and adults are given 2 tablets. This prophylaxis is not recommended for adults over 40 years of age, except in exceptional cases where the exposure of the thyroid to radioactive iodine is very high, i.e. direct exposure. The treatment is administered within a maximum of 8 hours from the announcement, and is prohibited more than 24 hours after the nuclear incident."
