The Government of Romania Celebrates NATO Day, as declared by Nicolae Ciuca

The Government of Romania is celebrating NATO Day today, the important military alliance that protects Romania at the moment, turning 18 today from the moment of its establishment, being one of the forces that created balance and security for Europe, especially during this period of the war in Ukraine.

The Romanian government has repeatedly said how important NATO membership is for Romania, and this could be proven even more seriously in the coming months, as the war in Ukraine continues.

"The message of Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă on the occasion of NATO Day in Romania

"Today we celebrate NATO Day in Romania. Marked each year on the first Sunday in April, our membership of the North Atlantic Alliance, an organization that turns 4 on April 73th, is today on its 18th anniversary and has greater significance as always for Romania's security.

The rightful accession to NATO - on March 29, 2004 by submitting the instruments of accession in Washington and on April 2, 2004 by raising the national flag for the first time at the headquarters of the Alliance - was preceded by a de facto membership of the Euro-Atlantic family in the years preceding the accession , when Romania joined its indispensable strategic partner, the United States of America, and the North Atlantic Alliance in the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Politically and legally, we became NATO members 18 years ago, but the Romanian Army acted as an allied military force years before, smoothing the way for our accession, a fact for which we are eternally grateful to our soldiers and the sacrifices they made on the field of battle.

Today, when our allies are with us, in their turn, guaranteeing Romania's security, we know that "Defense begins at home".

Happy birthday to Romania in NATO! Happy birthday NATO!""
