Formula 1 continued this weekend with the Grand Prix in Melbourne, Australia, and Lewis Hamilton once again became the center of controversy, even if he finally managed to finish the race in a relatively satisfactory place. Lewis Hamilton placed 4th in the list of drivers in yesterday's Formula 1 race in Australia, behind his colleague from Mercedes, Russel, but that's not what brought him back to the center of discussions around the world.
Formula 1 decided at one point that the radio discussions between the drivers and the teams should be broadcast on television, and a message that Lewis Hamilton sent to the Mercedes team generated quite a bit of controversy all over the world. Lewis Hamilton told the Formula 1 team from Mercedes that it "puts him in a difficult position", and from here there have been extremely many assumptions about what the driver of the German company actually wanted to say.
Formula 1 involves a lot of strategy, and some have said that Lewis Hamilton would have been upset because Mercedes would have forced him to let teammate Russel pass him in order to have a better positioning at the end of the race. In reality, Lewis Hamilton spoke about the problems that the Mercedes Formula 1 single-seater had, he complained about this from the moment he started testing the new car.
"I couldn't fight for third because the engine was overheating, so I had to back off. I just had to sit back, but you know – we got as many points as we could as a team and that's great. This weekend we had so many difficult times with the car, so to get fifth and sixth in qualifying, progress like we did and have confidence – we certainly didn't expect to have third and fourth."
Formula 1 is a very intense competition in which drivers must exploit their cars to the maximum in order to get results, and Lewis Hamilton complained because his car's engine overheated during laps. Hamilton explained that because of these problems he was forced to give up the fight for the podium, and to settle for only 4th place in this Formula 1 Grand Prix, something that of course was not to his liking at all.
Formula 1 will continue in the coming weeks with many other races, but it remains to be seen to what extent Lewis Hamilton will manage to have impressive results, the only good part being that Max Verstappen was forced to give up this race.
