The Minister of Defense: Latest Information on the Deep Changes in the Army

Minister of Defense Latest Information Deep Changes Army

The Minister of Defense officially announced a series of profound changes that will take place for the Romanian Army, and this is because the war in Ukraine showed how much there is a need for modernization, which was planned anyway, but which now becomes much more important.

The Minister of Defense says that the additional money from the national budget that will be provided to the ministry will also be used for a deep modernization of the Romanian Army, which of course should ensure a safer future in the region.

"The Romanian army is currently carrying out a deep modernization program, which will ensure it for a long time, from now on, the modern combat technology and technique it needs, given the security challenges that are manifesting in our region. From next year, we will have an increased level of budget allocation, which will allow us to accelerate the most important of the procurement programs.

But our most important resource is, without a doubt, our human resource. Without sufficient, well-trained, well-motivated people who benefit from decent conditions both at work and at home with their families, we cannot talk about a realistic and effective modernization strategy. I repeat what I have said on other occasions: professional performance must be motivated at the level of the other NATO armies.

We need a decent pay system for the military and civilian personnel that man the structures of our military, measures to ensure fair pensions are guaranteed to all reservists, regardless of the date of transition to the reserve. These are not political level promises, but priorities of my ministerial mandate.

These were my messages for the soldiers I met, on Friday and Saturday, in the Iași garrison, but also for the employees in all structures of the Romanian Army who do their duty to the country, but at the same time, they are concerned about their lives daily.

I was present, in Iași, at the headquarters of the 15th Mechanized Brigade "High Bridge", a unit that celebrated, this year, 145 years since its establishment, and I talked with the command team about the current activity of the brigade, but also about the level of equipment and military equipment. The military here have supported, since the beginning, the activity of the Logistics Center for the storage and distribution of aid for the provision of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine from Suceava. I thanked them for everything they did here."
