Romania is interested in buying oil and gas from the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca being present in the country for the last 2 days to discuss with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the country's leaders, about these collaborations.
Romania needs a rapid diversification of oil and natural gas purchases in this period when the war in Russia not only made these resources more expensive, but also forced all of Europe to reorient itself towards countries that can provide what it needs, for to give up Russian resources completely.
Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă paid a working visit to the United Arab Emirates on June 20-21. On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Romania had a meeting, in Abu Dhabi, with H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, and with H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE. The discussions focused on the development and strengthening the bilateral dialogue at the political, economic and sectoral level between the two states.
During the meeting, important and priority topics for the United Arab Emirates and Romania were addressed, as well as topics of regional and international interest. The main themes concerned projects in the field of energy, port infrastructure, agriculture and IT.
The dialogue established concrete benchmarks for solutions regarding the diversification of oil and gas supply resources, in the context of the tense situation in the Black Sea region and the European embargo on Russian supplies of oil and petroleum products.
At the same time, investment opportunities in Romania in the field of renewable energy, both off-shore and on-shore, were also discussed. The visit preceded the second session of the Cooperation Commission between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates which takes place on June 21-22.
