Minister of Education: Radical Last Minute Decisions for All Schools

The Minister of Education Radical Last Minute Decisions All Schools

The Minister of Education speaks after the 2022 Baccalaureate exam about a series of radical changes that will be made in all Romanian schools for millions of students, both at the level of the curriculum based on which they will learn, and in terms of bringing digitized assessment to the national exams starting from the following years.

The Minister of Education explains below what kind of important changes are expected in Romanian schools in order for the educational process to be improved and for the students to benefit from an educational act based on which they can assimilate the subject and learn the necessary skills during the years of study in the units of education of the country.

"We will have an analysis broken down by school, in some schools yes, remedial classes were taken seriously, and they helped. In other schools, unfortunately, this could not help either. One reason was really this, and then we must not forget that the exam subject was simplified, it was another reason, the subjects were correctly calibrated, and I think that this year the national exams were much better organized.

We used evaluators, teachers, who were trained to carry out this evaluation. Last year, unfortunately, although there were trained evaluators, the county school inspectorates preferred to use teacher evaluators who were not trained, for the most part, unfortunately for students from all over the country.

We will make every effort so that next year we can expand the digital assessment at the national level. It is not simple, we succeeded at the pilot level, and I am justified in believing that we will generalize this project at the national level. Moreover, it is not enough to have a digital evaluation, then I would like to have a digital administration of these national exams.

It is not enough to do the high performance evaluation, more important is the framework plan and a curriculum adapted to the needs of the students. Another conclusion that we managed to draw following the digital administration was that the level of abstraction of some subjects, and the degree of their loading, is not in favor of acquiring those skills that are of interest to students.

The curriculum will have to be radically revised, and the framework plans as well. This will happen starting from September 2023, by then I am convinced that we will have adopted and entered into force the law on pre-university education and that on higher education, a basic legislative package that transposes Educated Romania."
