FN Danube Protector Evaluation exercise of the fluvial battle group

The Romanian naval forces participated the other days in the FN Danube Protector, an evaluation exercise of the fluvial battle group that took place on the Danube, in the region between kilometers 180 - 186, among the objectives being the increase in the training level of the crews ships.

Assessment of the River Battle Group.

The ships of the "Mihail Kogălniceanu" River Flotilla carried out training activities at the wharf and on the river, as part of the "FN Danube Protector" exercise.

On the Danube, in the area of km 180-186, the River Battle Group, the spearhead of the River Flotilla, conducted a complex exercise with the main theme of the safety of the waterways in a designated area. The main objectives pursued were to increase the level of training of ship crews, to strengthen the skills of the military to service the equipment and artillery systems on board, to execute specific missions in a tactical framework, as well as to develop procedures for the protection of river transport routes from the area of responsibility, updating the database for river navigation in the march sector and creating a complete picture of the river situation.

The exercise is part of the measures to strengthen the reaction level of the Romanian military to counter hostile actions in the river area and the Danube Delta.

During the exercise, an evaluation commission made up of specialists from the Naval Forces Simulation, Evaluation and War Games Training Center and the Joint Forces Command "General Ioan Emanoil Florescu" evaluated the operational capabilities of the River Battle Group from the July-December rotation 2022.

The evaluation team aimed to evaluate the procedures for maneuvering in formation, dredging, repelling enemy attack and maintaining the vitality of the ships. Following the assessment, it emerged that river sailors have raised the level of professionalism demonstrated in previous assessments and are a specialized structure of the Naval Forces, adapted to the specific needs of the new regional security context.

In the margin of the training exercise on the Danube, on board the river ships there were also third-year students at the "Mircea cel Bătrân" Naval Academy, who were in the internship. They watched the tactical sequences executed by the ships, familiarized themselves with life aboard river ships and performed reconnaissance of coastal landmarks.

In the year in which 150 years of higher naval education are completed, the "Mircea cel Bătrân" Naval Academy permanently adapts its educational programs to the needs of the Romanian Naval Forces, a structure that ultimately benefits from well-prepared graduates, at a level similar training to their colleagues in the NATO navies.
