Defense Minister: NATO's radical change in strategy acts against a threat

The Minister of Defense spoke about the historic NATO summit in Madrid and the decisions taken there by the member countries of the alliance, saying that a radical change in strategy was decided, moving from defense and disengagement to action against a threat that it comes from Russia.

The Minister of Defense also says that there is a transition from air police to air defense, and this includes anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense, France bringing to Romania an anti-aircraft defense system, separate from the Deveselu shield, so our country benefits from advanced defense in against possible threats.

"If in the past we thought more about how we prevent, about security and safety, now collective defense and advanced presence have become reality, and then multidomain defense is also important. The problem of new threats was raised, so we are moving from the air police to anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense, which are also gains in Romania.

France has already brought a system, but certainly that this prepositioning that was talked about now both of the military defense elements, but also of ammunition, we will be able to respond quickly to be very close to a quick decision regarding the risk, and having the necessary materials, in my opinion, seems important.

Before they talked about defense and disengagement, but now they talk about action against a threat, it is a radical change, and here it seems to me that there is a historical dimension. There are still only forecasts (n. ed. asked about the distribution of the rapid response force with an increased force), it was discussed in the military committees, but there are people, leaders, who at this summit said not to do it, even with regard to these effective, and also in terms of the investment calendar, let's not give exact figures.

It was said to analyze one more time, and then it came to the situation that the quantitative decision was postponed, saying that depending on the analysis, or depending on the assessment of the situation. One of the important gains of this summit was the following thing, the advanced presence, the collective defense on the eastern flank is modular, flexible, you can increase the numbers, you can change a number of things.

This flexibility means mobility in the defense strategy and is very important. For us it is a good thing (Russia's withdrawal from Snake Island) because it was a strategic threat, Snake Island could be used in any way by the Russian Federation. I don't think it's a form of Russia's generosity."
