Klaus Iohannis: Romania is not currently discussing anti-COVID restriction measures

Klaus Iohannis, the president of Romania, says that at the moment there is no discussion about any possible reintroduction of measures to prevent the spread of COVID in Romania, or restrictive measures, as many people consider them, because the number of cases is low.

Klaus Iohannis makes it clear that the authorities hope at the moment not to impose restrictive measures again, so depending on the evolution of the number of infections, anything could be possible in the future, he asking the Romanians to be careful both by them and by the people close to them.

"I don't think that these changes of opinion in the last year have necessarily anything to do with what a certain politician, the president, the prime minister, the parliamentarians are doing, but the dissatisfaction that we all feel comes from the crisis generated by the COVID, the crisis generated by the war led by Russia against Ukraine and the crises that arose from there: the energy crisis, inflation and so on. It is obvious that everyone, including us, feels more insecure in this very volatile environment.

We're talking about COVID, right? It is disturbing to see a wave of infections rising again. It seems, however, that at this stage, for these forms of the virus, the existing vaccine is not having the effect that we hoped and wanted.

On the other hand, at least the statistics say that no more serious forms are produced than before. I discussed this matter with the Minister of Health, who manages the entire range of measures, and the Minister told me that he is not thinking of restrictive measures, but still of recommendations in this area.

I hope he's right and that's it. But a care for oneself and for those close to you is obviously auspicious in these times."
