Virgil Popescu published a series of official messages for millions of Romanians who are connected with Hungary and the USA, and this because the member of the Romanian Government had in the past days with Szijjártó Péter, Minister of Hungary, and discussed the closer cooperation between the countries in the field of energy, and not only.
Virgil Popescu also spoke about the strategic partnership between Romanians and the USA, signed 25 years ago, and listed some of the main benefits that existed, and still exist, for Romania thanks to this very important partnership that will continue between the two countries.
"Today I had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary Szijjártó Péter, who was on a working visit to Romania.
We discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of energy, in the current security context that requires close collaboration regarding the diversification of sources and routes of supply of natural gas, LNG and fuel for the production of nuclear energy.
Péter Szijjártó also conveyed that he is interested in an exchange of experience in the field of nuclear energy, including small modular reactors (SMRs). Through cooperation we will succeed in ensuring the energy security of the European Union.
Today we mark 25 years since the launch of the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA! The success of this partnership can be easily evaluated, and as a result of the collaboration, Romania had support to make a series of long-awaited reforms.
An important component is represented by the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA in the field of energy. In a short period of time, together with our American partners, we managed to put together a series of important projects, through which we will ensure our independence and energy security.
It is about collaboration in the development of the civil nuclear program (construction of reactors 3 and 4 at Cernavodă and SMRs), renewable energy and with a view to the extraction of natural gas from the Black Sea. I trust that the benefits of the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA will multiply in the coming period. Thank you USA for being a partner we can rely on."
