VIrgil Popescu Official Announcement Ensuring Romania's Energy Future

Virgil Popescu published an official announcement for all the people of the country regarding the measures that were taken to ensure the energy future of our country, and this is because he was present these days at discussions with US officials and representatives of some companies from the field of energy.

Virgil Popescu talks about discussions regarding units 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, but also about what kind of help the USA can offer from this point of view, all so that Romania is as little dependent on other countries for electricity , or to have a surplus to export.

"The development of the civilian nuclear program and the strengthening of the strategic partnership in the field of energy are the priorities that I will address during my working visit to the USA this week. Today I had a very good dialogue, in Washington, with representatives of American and Canadian companies, which are part of the project that provides for the construction of units 3 and 4 at Cernavodă.

I talked to SNC-Lavalin, Fluor Corporation, and Sargent & Lundy. At the same time, we had an exchange of ideas with NuScale representatives who are building the small modular reactor, from Doicești. Together with our American, Canadian and French partners, we are modernizing and developing nuclear energy in Romania.

Alongside me, HE the Ambassador of Romania to the USA Andrei Muraru, adviser to the chancellery of the Prime Minister George Agafiței, CEO of SNN Cosmin Ghiță and other officials of the Nuclearelectrica company also participated in the discussions.

I continued the discussions about the construction of the new reactors at Cernavodă with Reta Jo Lewis – President of the US Exim Bank in the USA. During the meeting we discussed the support that Romania will receive for reactors 3 and 4. At the same time, the president of Exim Bank reiterated the desire to support strategic investments in the development of the civil nuclear program in Romania and to ensure financing.

The cooperation relationship between Romania and the USA has a very good dynamic and is constantly developing. I am confident that we will complete the financing stage of reactors 3 and 4 by the end of this year with the support of the US Exim Bank."
