Coronavirus Romania New Number of New Cases August 20, 2022

The coronavirus continues to infect more and more Romanians from all over the country at the moment, the number of new cases remaining constant at several thousand every day, which continues to put pressure on the medical system in Romania, which is still caring for many people who were infected until at the moment.

Romania still seems to have managed to "navigate" quite well this wave 6 of infections generated by Coroanvirus, and this is because the number of new cases has been continuously decreasing for 2 weeks, and the authorities expect things to improve even more as we approach September.

The Omicron variant is at the center of all these problems at the moment, and this is because it generates a large number of infections due to its high contagiousness, and this, combined with the fact that the measures to prevent the spread do not exist, bring us to the situation of having many new cases of infection throughout the country, unfortunately.

"In the last 24 hours, 3.865 new cases of people infected with SARS - CoV - 2 (COVID - 19) were registered, with 989 less than the previous day. 691 of the new cases in 24 hours are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection.

Distinct from the newly confirmed cases, following retesting of patients who were already positive, 212 people were reconfirmed positive.

In specialized health units, the number of people hospitalized in wards with COVID-19 is 3.297, 153 less than the previous day. Also, 268 people are hospitalized at ATI, 11 less than the previous day. Of the 268 patients admitted to ATI, 235 are unvaccinated.

Of the total hospitalized patients, 412 are minors, 406 being hospitalized in wards, 34 less than the previous day and 6 in ATI, 1 more than the previous day.

Until today, 66.483 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval 19.08.2022 (10:00) – 20.08.2022 (10:00) 21 deaths (12 men and 9 women) were reported by the INSP, of which 1 death was reported before the reference interval.

In the last 24 hours, 3.460 RT-PCR tests were performed (2.311 based on case definition and medical protocol and 1.149 on request) and 13.443 rapid antigen tests. Until this date, at the national level, they have been processed
