Sorin Cimpeanu: Last Minute Declaration, Measures for Schools in the 2022-2023 School Year

Sorin Cimpeanu Last Minute Declaration School Measures School Year 2022 - 2023

Sorin Cimpeanu talks about one of the changes that will be implemented in all schools in Romania for millions of students starting with the 2022-2023 school year, more precisely the vacations every 6-8 weeks, they being recommended by the modern pedagogy studies that were used in development of measures.

Sorin Cimpeanu also talks about the February holiday which is chosen by the counties after consultations with teachers and parents, including the importance it has at the regional level, or just locally, and you can read more in the statement that the Minister of Education gave recently

"We have a convergence of all the studies that say this, the learning period of 6-8 weeks alternating with the rest period, 6-8 weeks after which there is a need for a decrease in pressure and rest. Any theory of modern pedagogy says this, by the way, this was the case until now, with the exception of the ban at the end of October, which was only for primary school students.

Now it has also appeared on the other levels of Education. Winter vacation exists, spring vacation exists, so there is no change. We have a flexible vacation in the spring, and that means we have the second, third, or fourth week of February at the option of each county, and these options were expressed.

On the one hand, it reduces the pressure on mountain resorts, road networks, etc., so it creates more flexibility for the education system, and each county has the right, through consultation with teachers and parents, to decide its positioning in the second, the third or fourth week, and they have already decided this.

It is a matter that has been requested for a long time, and which works in Germany, for example, and in other countries with outstanding education systems. Everything we do, we do as an extra chance to bring an improvement compared to what exists, we do not spoil anything that remained good in the education system, but there is a need for reform.

If there is no need for a reform in education, then it means that we are satisfied with the state of education from all perspectives. The teachers have results including at state schools, not only at private ones, and when I went to receive the recent delegation of students who participated in international competitions, I had a student who was awarded both at the Physics Olympiad and at the Linguistics Olympiad, and astronomy, he being a student from a state high school in Timisoara."
