Romania concluded an Important Strategic Partnership with Japan

Romania concluded a Strategic Partnership with Japan to increase the level of cooperation between the two countries, a decision that will certainly be very beneficial for our country, especially in the current extremely complicated international context in which we find ourselves.

Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă had a meeting in Tokyo today, together with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, with the delegation of the Government of Japan, led by the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida. Raising the relations between Romania and Japan to the level of the Strategic Partnership is an opportune political act in the current international context, which materializes the remarkable vision of the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in the sphere of foreign policy, stated Prime Minister Ciucă.

"Romania is deeply committed to developing relations with Japan at the level of the Strategic Partnership, a symbol of the recognition of the special bond between our countries, as well as of the significant potential for bilateral development.

We are ready to agree on the most suitable moment for the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, once the document is finalized", emphasized the head of the Romanian Executive. At the same time, the prime minister mentioned that Japan is among Romania's main partners in Asia, both politically and economically, and appreciated the valuable contribution to the transition and modernization of our country in the last 30 years.

Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă met today, together with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, with the Japan-Romania Parliamentary Friendship League, led by president Ichiro Assawa, during the visit to Japan of the two Romanian dignitaries.

Prime Minister Ciucă emphasized that it is an honor to represent Romania at the state funeral organized in memory of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the first head of government from Japan to visit our country and the one who agreed to launch the Strategic Partnership with Romania , in the context of the reception by President Klaus Iohannis, in his historic visit in 2018.

Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă claimed that the conclusion of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Japan is not only a timely act, but also a legacy left by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the field of foreign policy, which reflects his remarkable vision in this field , assigning Romania a relevant role in this region.

Moreover, both Romania and Japan share the same values ​​and interest in defending the rules-based world. "The security and defense component represents one of the four cooperation pillars of our future partnership, of great interest to both sides. The close and permanent coordination between us is all the more important and necessary in the context of the strategic challenges we are facing", said Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.
