The Romanian Army participated in the Golden Mask 22 Military Exercise

The Romanian Army participated in the Golden Mask 22 military exercise, which took place in Germany for 2 weeks from mid-September, the Romanian military working together with several hundred others sent by NATO allied countries to participate in the exercises.

The Romanian Army has participated in several military exercises recently in order to improve its ability to cooperate with the military of NATO allied countries, and below you have the details of the one in which the Romanian soldiers participated until yesterday.

The Romanian military participated in the "Golden Mask 22" exercise in Germany.

Between September 17-30, over 650 Romanian soldiers and allies from countries such as Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria, with over 250 technical means were deployed in the Bergen/Münster region, Germany to participate in the joint training exercise "GOLDEN MASK 2022" under the sole command of CJ-CBRND-TF (Combined Joint Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defense Task Force), provided by the host nation - Germany. The Romanian contingent was placed as a structure subordinate to the 3rd Multifunctional Company, alongside Bulgarian and Italian partners, under Italian command.

The main objectives of the exercise consisted in increasing the mobilization capacity and achieving the cohesion of the trained forces, the joint training of the structures participating in the NATO Response Force, but also the strengthening of cooperative relations and trust between allies and partners.

The participants in the activity were evaluated regarding the reaction to various types of incidents, such as: the actions taken in the event of a chemical or nuclear attack, the installation of a total decontamination area and the execution of the decontamination of personnel, equipment and materials, the mode of action, while traveling , following the ambush, the reaction to an attack by the opposing forces on the location of the own forces, the reaction to an IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) attack.

In the first part of September 28, DV-Day (Day of Distinguished Visitors) took place, a day dedicated by the German partner to distinguished guests, representatives of the armed forces of all the states involved in the exercise, but also to other representatives of non-involved states , who were given a static and dynamic presentation of the CBRN capabilities of the 8 NRF contributing nations.

Through the participation of the CBRN Decontamination Platoon in the GOMA 22 exercise, the commitments assumed by Romania within the NATO Response Force were fulfilled.

Also, a high level of interoperability between the forces involved was achieved, fulfilling the main objective of the activity, and the final result was the multinational certification of the CJ-CBRND-TF.

During the course of the exercise, the soldiers from the 49th CBRN Defense Battalion "Argeș" succeeded through dedication, professionalism and involvement to face all the challenges and work effectively with the other participants. For the decontaminators from Pitesti, participation in the activity represented a new stage of collective training, in a multinational context, for the maintenance and permanent growth of the skills necessary to fulfill the specific missions of the CBRN defense structures.
