Minister of Energy: IMPORTANT Decisions for Natural Gas in Romania Decided at the European Level

Minister of Energy IMPORTANT Decisions Natural Gas Romania Decisions European level

The Minister of Energy makes an extremely important announcement regarding natural gas that reaches Romanians from all over the country, and this is because during a meeting with European counterparts it was discussed the urgency of implementing a ceiling for natural gas transactions, so that prices for them to continue to decrease.

The Minister of Energy talks below about what was discussed for application at the European level for Romanians throughout the country, but measures of this kind cannot be implemented right away, it takes time for them to come into force, so we still have to wait until this happens, so a lot of patience is needed.

"Regarding the natural gas market, I reiterated during the debates the urgency of implementing a cap on natural gas transactions on the European wholesale market. The initiative is supported by the majority of member states and aims at a capped tariff for natural gas imports, regardless of origin, and for internal transactions, ensuring security of supply.

A capped tariff would lead to a lower price for electricity produced on the basis of natural gas, the heating agent and the raw material used in the profile industry. Likewise, Romania continues to support the emergency activation, before this winter, of the European Energy Platform for the joint purchase of natural gas in order to ensure a fair distribution of the additional volumes of gas and LNG attracted to the EU.

For the near future, Romania continues to support the goal of decoupling the price of electricity from that of natural gas, requesting concrete proposals from the European Commission to reform the design of the energy market.

Also, Romania indicated its support for the security of gas and electricity supply of the Republic of Moldova, mentioning the joint declaration adopted in Odessa in September 2022 between Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to stimulate interconnections and cooperation in the field of energy and increase bilateral exchanges of electricity, especially in the perspective of ensuring security in the supply of the Republic of Moldova this winter.

Romania expressed its concern along with other member states regarding the gas leaks from the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea and support for measures at the European level to increase the safety of critical infrastructure. It also condemned any deliberate actions to sabotage supply networks at EU level, with an impact on Community security and resilience."
