The Minister of Energy made a series of extremely important announcements for Romania, and millions of Romanians from all over the country, and this is because he is talking to people about the decisions that have been taken recently in the energy field to provide energy security to Romania in this period.
The Minister of Energy talks below about the important decisions that have been taken, and you can see that we are talking about visits to the Rovinari Thermal Power Plant, about bilateral meetings to ensure electricity and gas for Romania, but very importantly, the provision of electricity to the Republic of Moldova.
"This morning, on my way to the Rovinari Thermal Power Plant, I went to see the Roșia quarry, which is essential for the optimal functioning of the Oltenia Energy Complex, which, unfortunately, the so-called environmentalists from Gorje recently tried to close. An irresponsible, "criminal" action in the context of the current energy crisis. We are concerned with modernizing the activity of CEO, an important part of the Romanian energy system. Today I will participate in the anniversary of the 50 years of activity of the Rovinari Thermal Power Plant - branch of CEO.
Together with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, I participated in the meeting with Mariam Almheiri, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the United Arab Emirates and co-president of the Romania-United Arab Emirates Interministerial Commission. The Emirati official is visiting Romania accompanied by a delegation of company presidents and senior officials, to discuss ongoing bilateral projects.
Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă mentioned the visit he made to the United Arab Emirates and the meeting he had with the Emirati president, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as the telephone conversation held afterwards, aimed at monitoring and evaluating the evolution of the agreed projects. Romania's interest covers a wide spectrum of topics and projects agreed with the Emirati side, which are in various stages of maturity. The alternative options of the parties aim to focus on the rapid promotion of mature projects and the advancement of the others in 3-4 month intervals, in order to bring them to fruition in the shortest possible time. Investments in renewable energy production and transport capacities are among the agreed priorities.
Electricity for the Republic of Moldova! Through GEO 138/2022, which was adopted yesterday, we amended GEO no. 119/2022 so that "in exceptional situations caused by the effects of the war in Ukraine on the security of electricity supply in the Republic of Moldova, electricity producers are obliged to conclude bilateral contracts, within the limits of available quantities, primarily with electricity traders/suppliers designated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, in this sense, at the reference price provided in annex no. 2.
The electricity sold under these conditions exclusively covers the consumption needs of final consumers in the Republic of Moldova." Hidroelectrica and Energocom, a company designated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, signed a supply contract today - 100 MW.
