Minister of Education: LAST-MINUTE Decisions for Students and Schools, What Major Changes Are Necessary

Minister of Education Decisions LAST TIME Students Schools Major Changes Necessary

The Minister of Education made several extremely important last-minute announcements that all Romanians in our country must know about, and this is because we are talking about a series of measures that are extremely necessary in Romania, and some that are already being taken to be applied for the benefit of school students.

The Minister of Education talks below about the PISA tests that will be given in the following years, about what is needed in schools in Romania so that students can benefit from the best educational experience, but also about much more delicate measures related to CNATDCU and the new Education Laws.

"The last digital literacy report from May this year said that in the age range of 6-18 years, the high functional level of digital literacy is only 25%. So, on the numbers right now, that's the percentage we hope to educate future IT&C professionals.

We want to have even better data and then for PISA 2025 I am now announcing for the first time that we have considered and requested that in the basic questionnaire for students we also cover the ICT area, in order to better understand the performance of students, speaking of skills . This will also allow us to adapt things much better for the future.

So, if we want the school to be a vector of digital and social mobility, then every school must have these minimum conditions: internet connection, devices, laboratories or other types of devices and a group of teachers who can form students and other teaching staff with minimal skills and I believe that, if we were to prioritize, together with the national platforms that can ensure the coordination of such a network, we must invest there, we still have gray areas, speaking of access.

We still have problems with the devices, which, after being purchased during the pandemic, also need maintenance, the renewal of internet access subscriptions. Things in education must be thought strategically. In the current legislative framework, which includes the decision of the Constitutional Court from this summer, we are doing everything we can so that this normative framework regarding academic integrity also responds to the legitimate demands of society, in order to prevent possible abuses.

I believe that some provisions of the legislative package launched in public debate are still appropriate - for example the awarding of the doctorate title and diploma at the university level - but, from the discussions held, elements such as the existence of a CNATDCU type filter should remain. We are seriously considering these discussions, including with those from the current CNATDCU leadership."
