Ukraine confirms the loss of the city of Soledar after months of extremely hard fighting with the Russian army, the town being to an extremely large extent destroyed by constant bombings and street fighting, so that the Russians only gain a point of connection with Bakhmut, a very important strategic locality.

"Ukraine confirms the withdrawal from Soledar in the Donetsk region, after a months-long Russian attack. "After months of intense fighting, also in recent weeks, the Ukrainian army has now left (Soledar) and retreated to the outskirts of the city in prepared positions," Serhiy Cherevaty, spokesman for Ukraine's Eastern Military Command, told AFP.
